Behind the Scenes: Capturing the Maxxis Trepador Extreme Off-Road Tire in Action

At Brandcreative, we thrive on pushing boundaries to create unforgettable visuals for our clients. When Maxxis Tires approached us to produce a product video for their Trepador Extreme Off-Road Tire, we knew it had to be epic. The setting? The rugged and breathtaking landscapes of Sand Hollow State Park in Utah during the Winter 4x4 Jamboree event. The star? Josh White (@scatpackjku) and his legendary Jeep JKU, fitted with Maxxis Trepador competition tires.

The Challenge: Rugged Terrain and High Expectations

Sand Hollow State Park is a dream for off-road enthusiasts but presents unique challenges for video production. From its rolling dunes to sharp rock outcroppings, the terrain demanded more than just exceptional driving skills—it required a production team ready to adapt and perform under pressure.

The Winter 4x4 Jamboree brought together thousands of off-road enthusiasts, which added a dynamic layer to the project. Capturing the thrill of the event while spotlighting the performance of the Maxxis Trepador tire was our primary goal—and meeting the expectations of an iconic brand like Maxxis pushed us to deliver our best.

The Production Process: Gimbals, Drones, and High-Speed Cameras

Our production strategy was all about versatility and precision. We used a mix of handheld gimbals, drones, and high-speed cameras to showcase the tire’s capabilities in diverse terrains and conditions. Here's how we made it happen:

          Pre-Production Planning:

                    We collaborated closely with Maxxis Tires to understand their vision for the Trepador’s story: power, durability, and extreme performance.

                    Josh White’s expertise in off-road driving allowed us to plan sequences that highlighted the tire’s traction on dunes, its grip on rocky climbs, and its resilience in real-world scenarios.

          Shooting on Location:

                   Handheld Gimbals: To capture close-up action shots of the Jeep’s suspension and tire performance, our operators used handheld gimbals, allowing for fluid, dynamic movement even on uneven ground.

                   Drone Footage: Sand Hollow’s stunning landscapes demanded sweeping aerial shots. Our drone pilots captured the Jeep carving through dunes and scaling rock faces, offering perspectives that ground-                           level cameras simply couldn’t achieve.

                   High-Speed Cameras: For dramatic slow-motion sequences, we used high-speed cameras to showcase the spray of sand, the flex of the tires under pressure, and the sheer power of the Jeep in motion.

          Custom Sound Design and Music Composition:

                   The soundscape of the video played a crucial role in immersing viewers in the action. Our team created custom sound effects that accentuated the roar of the Jeep’s engine and the crunch of tires gripping                         rock and sand.

                   Original music composition added an emotional layer, with dynamic shifts to match the intensity of the visuals. From heart-pounding beats during high-action sequences to subdued tones for dramatic slow-                   motion shots, the soundtrack elevated the storytelling.

          Voice-Over Scripting:

                    To tie the narrative together, we scripted a compelling voice-over that emphasized the Trepador’s unmatched performance and the adrenaline-fueled spirit of off-roading. Delivered with precision, the voice-                      over provided a cohesive thread that guided viewers through the video’s journey.

          Post-Production Magic:

                    Back at the Brandcreative editing suite, we meticulously pieced together the footage, ensuring every shot reinforced the Trepador’s extreme capabilities. Color grading brought out the vivid red sands of                                Sand Hollow, while sound design and the custom soundtrack added depth and excitement to every frame.

Overcoming Challenges

Producing this video was no small feat. The unpredictable weather of Sand Hollow’s winter season kept us on our toes, with cold mornings and unexpected wind gusts testing both the team and our equipment. Additionally, shooting at a live event meant we had to navigate crowded trails and coordinate timing with other drivers to ensure uninterrupted footage.

But these challenges only heightened the team’s determination. Every obstacle became an opportunity to showcase our adaptability and commitment to delivering stunning results.

The Final Product

The finished video isn’t just a testament to the Maxxis Trepador tire’s extreme off-road performance—it’s also a showcase of Brandcreative’s production capabilities.
